If you have dentures, it’s very important to do all you can to keep them in tip-top shape. If you fail to properly care for them, they won’t effectively replace your missing teeth and help you eat, talk and smile the ways you want them to. So, our periodontist, Dr. WonJoon Lee, would like to teach you how to properly care for your dentures. It’s best to do the following things:

-Clean your dentures daily: You can do so by brushing your appliance once a day just like you would brush your natural teeth. However, instead of using a toothbrush and toothpaste, use a soft-bristled denture brush and water. You should also rinse your dentures with water after each meal and snack.

-Care for your dentures: Place a towel in the sink when you take the dentures out of the mouth. That way if you drop the appliance, you reduce your chances of damaging it. When you aren’t wearing your dentures, soak them in cool water or denture cleaning solution to keep them from drying out and warping.

-Remove your dentures every night: This allows your gum tissues to rest as you sleep.
